KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita MCA will set up a women entrepreneur development centre to focus on empowering women with career and financial skills.
Wanita MCA chairman Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun said: “We want to create new growth sectors for women, and also to create business opportunities for women SMEs (small-and-medium enterprises) in areas such as ICT, biotechnology, trade and the service industry.”
Speaking to reporters after chairing the Wanita MCA central committee meeting at Wisma MCA here yesterday, Chew said a three-year plan had been approved for the project.
The centre would be housed in the fifth floor of Wisma MCA, Chew said.
She said Wanita MCA was also organising a study trip to Singapore on May 30 to network and hold a dialogue with the women’s wing of the People’s Action Party of Singapore.
On another matter, Chew said Wanita MCA supported the setting-up of Puteri Barisan Nasional and would send its chief, deputy chief and secretary from Beliawanis MCA to be representatives.
However, it had not been decided which positions the three representatives would hold in Puteri Barisan, she added.
