Cervical Cancer Awareness Campaign
A CAMPAIGN to raise awareness of cervical cancer, which also offers subsidised rates for the vaccination, will be held at the Damansara Jaya Residents and Owners Association from 8am to 1pm on Aug 24.
Organised by Yayasan CRSM (the Crisis Relief Squad of the MCA) and the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Malaysia, the campaign will also include free health checks like blood pressure, blood sugar, weight measurement and dental checks.
Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun said, at a press conference, that a talk on cervical cancer would also be held where vaccination would be available at a subsidised rate for the first 200 participants. She added that those interested should register with MCA’s CRSM by calling 03-2161 8044.
Dr R. Gunasegaran, chairman of the social responsibility committee of the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Malaysia, who was present at the press conference, said cervical cancer was the second most common cancer among Malaysian women diagnosed with cancer.
“About 13% of women diagnosed with cancer suffer cervical cancer.
“It is only cervical cancer that has vaccination as a preventive measure at the moment,” he said.
Dr Gunasegaran also said most women diagnosed with cervical cancer were aged between 35 and 45.
